Precious possession…

Exodus 34:14 “(for you shall worship no other god, for the LORD whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God),” He alone is God and He is a jealous God.

God? A jealous God? Doesn’t that contradict our understanding of jealous? Well, it would if we were thinking the more traditional definition of jealous: “hostile toward a rival or one believed to enjoy and advantage.”i

But another less used definition of jealous is far more fitting in this context: “vigilant in guarding a possession.”ii  Ah, now THAT sounds like our God. He is jealous for you – vigilant in guarding that which is precious to Him. YOU! Consider your Jealous God today.

Blessings, Diane

    Dear Diane,

Thanks, as always, for a most beautiful reminder that we belong to a G-d Who is so passionately in love with us, He is JEALOUS for us to be near to – and part of – Him.

Imagine the wonder of that! The Creator of ALL – the Master above all – jealously desires to COMPLETELY have us as His children.

I am so humbled and filled with this insatiable sense of awe.

    G-d’s blessings be upon you!
