I have a new dog that I rescued named Sawyer. He is about 1 year old, about 10 pounds, and he is definitely the sweetest, kindest, most loving little pup you’ve ever met. Over the past 2 weeks, he has been through A LOT. Neutering, vaccinations, being shipped cross-country, microchipped, etc. Plus, when I found him at this mega-adoption event I attended, he was sick, he was in a VERY hot room with over a thousand other loud animals, and he was crammed in a cage with another dog. But he’s still so sweet. He doesn’t bark, he doesn’t whine, he doesn’t run. He can be picked up and passed from person to person and he will just cuddle them. What I think is so funny about my little dog though, is how he follows me from room to room and just wants to lie at my feet.
Sweet Lil’ Sawyer
Isn’t that a beautiful picture of the relationship between God and His church? As little Sawyer’s life was saved and he was rescued from a cage, Jesus – being on such an incomparable scale – saved our lives and rescued us from the bondage of sin… and now that we are His, we are called to follow Him wherever he leads and just lay at His feet. He wants us to listen to Him, give Him our burdens, and be obedient. And just like I have to do a lot of work to care for my dog, like potty-train him, take him to the vet to get more shots and medication, and teach him commands, God is continuously working on us. He is “training” us to be more like Jesus, He is teaching us His commands, and He is always, always, always caring for us and thinking about us, because He loves us unconditionally and wants to see us get “better” every day! Gotta love Him!

Erin,
Beautiful analogy! Yes, that’s our dear Jesus. And I love to “curl up” in His lap and soak up His great love as He rescued me from my sin and has blessed me and my family beyond measure. And though I’ve also had my “shots” as I lost my 15 year old son to brain cancer in 1995, and lost my dear wife of 42 years to a hit & run accident in August by a woman on drugs, and I have had Parkinson’s for 6 years, Jesus has always carried my family through the storms of life and continues to do so. My faith, and the faith of my sons, their wives, and children has not wavered. For we know that we serve a good, good God whom we can trust as He grows and tests our faith. And all glory to Jesus for taking us through each day holding our hands and showering us with His great love and the truths in His Word. Hallelujah! What a Savior! Thank you for sharing about Sawyer, and being faithful to our dear Lord, Savior, and soon-coming King. Godspeed.
