Psalm 37:4 “Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
When my husband came to the Colony of Mercy one of the questions that was asked of me was, “What are the desires of my heart?” And I was given this passage from Scripture. Psalm 37:4 “Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
I had no idea how to answer because I had no idea who I was. The word “delight” in this Psalm means to be dependent upon God and derive one’s pleasures from Him.
I made my children and husband my god and therefore my identity, so my desires were to please them and cause them to depend on me so that I had purpose and meaning.
As I sought the Lord, He showed me that my children had moved out and my husband had gone to rehab all through the year. This was the beginning for me. I had lost my identity. The Lord had to be my all in all. Through my journey, I found that I was a daughter of the King of kings which made me His princess. I learned while my husband was away to delight in the Lord and to be dependent on Him. Then I was able to learn the desires of my heart. God showed them to me; He placed them in me. My desire was to be the wife and mother that my husband and children needed. It was no longer about me but about God. He would work through me to love and encourage others.
