Becoming a Gift Giver

“And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” Matthew 2:11

“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart— These, O God, You will not despise.” Psalm 51:17

What a gift we have received ….Jesus the Christ! He came and He gave His very life for you and me. I pray we don’t take that for granted. I hope we don’t hide that gift away and only look at it once or twice a year. I pray we do not get tired of the wonder of the gift of eternal life given through Christ.
We tend to be a people who receive more than we give. Sometimes we don’t reciprocate. We are given much but give back so little. Because Jesus came and gave we all, should be gift givers.

The magi or wise men certainly saw it fitting to bring gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh so, what do we give to Jesus?

There is nothing that I could bring to Jesus to repay Him for all He has given me. However, I think there are gifts that He would want to receive from us. The gifts we can bring are not tangible gifts but gifts such as …knowing Him deeper…loving greater… trusting more. We can bring Him all of our desires to draw closer in our relationship with Him. I think Jesus would be pleased. Maybe the gift you can bring this year is your brokenness, that bad habit you can’t overcome on your own, your disappointment, your grief, your heart that is shattered in pieces. Maybe, like me, it’s easy to get comfortable with those things and it is hard to let them go.

Regardless of what your gift may look like, Jesus wants to give us more than we can ever imagine so we can become everything He knows we are meant to be!

Blessings,
Kathy
