The Law of Love – Part II

“You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love.” Galatians 5:13

We started off yesterday with a call to modesty. The standards of dress have changed so drastically over time that things that we don’t think twice about today would have not have only raised eyebrows a hundred years ago but probably earned us a name we would not like.
Yesterday, I suggested some very pointed guidelines regarding modest attire. You may be thinking I’m being legalistic or prudish. Oh sister, hear my heart. Our theme verse this week and several others in Scripture clearly assure us we are free. “For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.” Romans 6:14. “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” John 8:36. “I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free.” Psalm 119:32. BUT, we are never to use our freedom as a license to do whatever we want if it causes a brother to stumble. Our theme verse says, “…do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love.” The law of love constrains the law of freedom, or law of liberty. In other words, we give up our freedom out of love for a brother or sister, if the exercise of our freedom is a stumbling block for them.
You may be thinking, “This isn’t fair.” I’m not the one that has the problem. Why is modesty such a big deal? I’m not wearing anything too revealing. If a man gawks, that’s his problem. As a Christian woman, it is your “problem” because Christ has called you to serve your brother in love. How loving is it to wear clothing that attracts his eye, distracts him, or causes him to stumble? I’m not talking here about within your marriage. I’m talking about the men that are not your husband.
It takes a woman of strength, conviction and dignity to make such unselfish decisions. Are you willing to be that kind of woman?

No challenge today, I think we have been challenged enough.

    Hear Ye….Hear Ye…..WAY TO GO, DIANE !

I haven’t “blogged” a response for quite awhile (have acquired a business called “House of HaShem Garden and Interiors by Stephanie”…and it keeps me mighty busy. ) Nevertheless, I just HAD to respond to today’s reading, and wish I would have seen yesterday’s from your reference to it.

During one of the bleakest times in my life – as I was in prayer – I distinctly received a word from G-d that I was to place my modesty in check. I became convicted to not cut my hair and to give up my form-fitting pants. NOW I DO NOT MEAN TO SAY that I hold all of my sisters to this format, however, that is the word that He gave to ME. He – meaning Adonai G-d – loves us to be feminine and to look like women….He also calls us to modesty, humility, righteousness, and dignity as daughters of the Most High King. We are HIS princesses ! Actually, since adopting this mode of dress many years ago, I find myself NOT feeling “in bondage” or a “slave to the Victorian Age” ! Rather, I feel free and joyful and VERY MUCH in style. I still wear “palazzo pants” – wide leg style, and skirts of modest and longer lengths. My hair is down to my waist, albeit I wear it up or back or with extensions. I am a Modern-Day woman, I love being His Girl (hence, Yeshua’s Girl as an e-mail address !!!!) and guess what? Forgive my boldness of confession here, but I STILL get “gawks” once in awhile….not because I’m showing any flesh, but because I am trying NOT to walk in the FLESH, and I have a suspicion that it shows….Joy and kindness are the most attractive attributes a woman can have, and we just “ain’t gonna’ get those sincere feelings from strutting around and revealing cleavage !!!! That will not bring us lasting joy because it’s not meant to…..the cleavage eventually ages and “goes south!!!”, the made-up eyes eventually accentuate crow’s feet, and the short, tight skirts eventually reveal sagging knees and perhaps some cellulite !!!! Hey, girls….it happens to all of us, no matter how expensive our gym membership happens to be !!!!! Living and dressing and embracing righteous, feminine modesty is the ULTIMATE in BEAUTIFUL….and it’s LASTING….it NEVER AGES !!!!!!

So……thanks for listening to my rambling. You just happened to “touch” so eloquently on one of my areas of passion !

Praise be to our sweet G-d !!!! He LOVES “His Girls” !!!!!

    Miss you all !!!!!
