Guess what?! It’s SPRINGTIME! I’ll be the first to admit… I’m the biggest brat when it comes to this season. In my mind, once Spring hits, nobody is allowed to wear coats anymore and sandals are always PERFECTLY acceptable – even if it’s 40 degree weather outside. It doesn’t matter. It’s SPRING!
Needless to say, this season is my favorite – warm weather, blooming flowers, chirping birds … and if you ever read my Victory Call bio, you’ll know that one of my favorite things in the world is SPRING DRESSES! It’s just such a happy season. It’s also a season that makes people think of “new beginnings.” The cold, dreary, and dark winter is melting away to reveal something beautiful and joyful.
I think you can guess where this analogy is going…
Isn’t it so great that as believers, we were able to have our new beginning? We are a new creation – born again! The old, dark, and dreary “us” has passed away – we are not bound to the flesh and to sin any more. No, once we repented and gave our hearts to Jesus, He melted away the “winter” and revealed something beautiful and joyful.
2 Corinthians 5: 17 – Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
Ezekiel 11:19-20 – And I will give them one heart, and a new spirit I will put within them. I will remove the heart of stone from their flesh and give them a heart of flesh, that they may walk in my statutes and keep my rules and obey them. And they shall be my people, and I will be their God.
Galatians 5:24 – And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
There is also a very popular phrase associated with this season… Spring Cleaning! At the time, it’s no fun… but isn’t the end result so great? When you put the duster, rake, and magic erasers away and look at your beautiful and clean home?
That kind of Spring Cleaning is what I call “exterior.” What about interior cleaning? Do you need to do some “Spring Cleaning” in your heart? Are you angry at someone and you just can’t bring yourself to forgive them? Is there a struggle you’re going through that you need to stop trying to control and instead give to God? Or maybe you’ve wandered off the path and need to get serious about your walk with God again?
The process of Spring Cleaning might be hard, but the end result is great. Don’t wait… because as a believer, you are a new creation. You are a daughter of the King! You’ve experienced your new beginning, and you’re not bound to the flesh anymore; You are something beautiful and joyful. You’re just like the Spring season! An old season has passed away and a new one has come. Make this season one of change for the better!
