I was reminded once again about the value of personalizing Scripture by inserting your name or the name of a loved one into the verses you are reading. Currently I am reading Psalms. The Psalms are a great place to start to learn this practice. I will even write the verses out in this way just to give myself a picture of what I am reading. Here is Psalm 23 personalized:
I, the Lord, am Kathy’s shepherd, she shall not want. I make her lie down in green pastures; I lead her beside quiet waters. I restore her soul; I guide her in the paths of righteousness for my name’s sake. Even though Kathy walks through the shadow of death, she does not fear evil for I am with her. My rod and staff, they comfort her. I prepare a table before her in the presence of her enemies; I have anointed her head with oil; her cup overflows. Surely goodness and loving-kindness will follow her all the days of her life. She will dwell in my house forever.
Please know that I do not seek to change the Word but only hear it in a way that is personal. Not all Scripture can be or should be personalized in this way. I do not seek to write the Kathy Withers Version (KWV) of the Bible. I am only reminded that God still speaks to our hearts through His Word and it is alive and active in our lives today!
Blessings,
Kathy Withers
