God’s Word

    …receive with meekness the implanted word… James 1: 21

The word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword. (Heb 4:12) A

All Scripture is breathed out by God… (2 Timothy 3:16)

God uses His Word to grow us.  Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. (John 17:17) I could go on and on about the richness of God’s Word. If you need more convincing read through Psalm 119 and make note of the various ways the Psalmist refers to God’s Word and his love and delight in it.

…man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD. (Deut 8:3)

I believe we can all agree of the value of God’s Word and that it is inerrant (without error in its original form). We believe it is true from Genesis to Revelation.

The impact of God’s Word on our hearts, attitudes, and actions is very much dependant upon the heart attitude with which we approach His Word.  If we do not receive it with meekness we will only give it consideration.  If we do not approach it with meekness we put ourselves in a position of judge in which we determine if and when we will obey its truths.

To approach God’s Word with meekness is to come with an attitude of submission to it, to bring myself under it with a humility that recognizes that I am not to judge it or sometimes even understand the why of it; I am called to love the Author of the Word through my obedience to the Word.
To receive the Word with meekness requires that it is not a line item on my to-do list that I check off.   One evening after dinner I said, “I have to go read my Bible.” And my dear son of 25 said, “You mean you want to go read your Bible right? Not that you have to go read it. ” Point well taken.
What attitude do you approach God’s Word with?  Is it good reading? Is it an item on your to-do list?  Is it a guidebook?  Or is it the Word from the Lover of your soul spoken to your heart?  Do you come with an attitude of meekness eager to receive its life-changing truths and anxious to obey them?
Believe me, often times when I write these Victory Calls I am sensing the conviction of the Holy Spirit on my own soul.  So if you have been challenged today, I’m right there with you sister.

Blessings, Diane
